Frogger: Peacock game show trailer finds players hopping over zany obstacles

Konami’s classic arcade game Frogger is making a comeback! No, this isn’t a new video game announcement. Peacock has transformed the quarter-munching arcade experience into an obstacle course-style game show.

Do you know how the iconic video game has players hopping across a busy terrain littered with obstacles? That’s precisely what contestants will do when they enter the game arena and try to make it to the other side. The course features plenty of pitfalls from the original game, including floating alligators, precariously placed lily pads, and moving cars. It’s a competition series that feels an awful lot like American Ninja Warrior, Wipeout, or The Floor is Lava.

Damon Wayans Jr. has been tapped to host the show. Joining him is the NFL Network’s Kyle Brandt as co-host.

“The show Frogger brings to life this popular franchise and supersizes it on an epic course,” reads a synopsis for the series, courtesy of Peacock. “Audiences and contestants alike will be transported into a wild, whimsical Frogger world, filled with all the simple but challenging elements of the mega-hit from Konami. Contestants from across the country will test their talent in a competition requiring skill, strength, strategy, and problem-solving smarts. Who will have what it takes to be America’s finest Frogger and jump away with $100,000?”

I’d be lying if I said this doesn’t look like fun. Is the one-liner commentary painful to listen to? Absolutely. However, is it going to be fun to watch people jump face-first into a spinning lily pad or angry alligator? You bet!

Frogger will leap exclusively onto Peacock beginning on September 9, 2021. New episodes will air every Thursday thereafter.
