The supposedly massively f*cked up FRONTIERE(S) has finally landed itself a release date: May 2, courtesy of After Dark Films. At the moment, it looks like it will go forward with an NC-17 rating. If you’ll recall, the rating was a sticking point late last year when FRONTIERE(S) was part of After Dark’s 8 FILMS TO DIE FOR – ultimately it was dropped, which was probably for the best because, you know, no one goes to see that goddamned thing. Now the film stands a chance to get some actual publicity, although there’s no telling how many theaters will gamble on an NC-17 flick, especially one that received the rating for violence, not sex.
I’ve heard mixed things about this movie. I’ve heard it delivers the goods in bloody fashion, but also that it’s highly derivative. Plus, it’s essentially “torture porn,” a genre dying faster than Hilary Clinton’s presidential hopes (Oh snap!). Truth be told, some hardcore horror fans have let on that it’s fairly off-putting, which kind’ve raises my eyebrows a bit. I guess we’ll all see for ourselves this Spring.
