Full trailer for Ghost in the Shell starring Scarlett Johansson is “online”

The full trailer for director Rupert Sanders' (SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN) live-action adaptation of GHOST IN THE SHELL is now "online" and it looks…pretty impressive. While there's been some backlash against Scarlett Johansson being cast in the role of The Major, the film looks spot on in interpreting the original 1995 vision from director Mamoru Oshii (based on the Manga comic by Masamune Shirow). The costumes, design, and overall look seem to have captured the world of GHOST IN THE SHELL with style and integrity, but will that be enough? Check it out below and judge for yourself:

Here's the synopsis:

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, “GHOST IN THE SHELL” follows Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

There may be some holdouts for this one based on the casting controversy, but I think most movie fans will flock to it. It's been a hot minute since I've seen the original, but I loved it growing up and Johansson has emerged as a hell of a leading lady in the action genre, which is no small feat. She's at the top of her game and I think this is a smart franchise for her to invest in. I'm more nervous about Sanders, who did not impress me with SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN. He's got style, sure, but GHOST IN THE SHELL will need more than that to resonate with viewers. Still, based on the trailer, this one has me optimistic for a good sci-fi show.

GHOST IN THE SHELL hits theaters on March 31, 2017.
