Futurama: The Future Express crew is crash landing in Fortnite for a limited crossover event

Shut up and take my money! The official Fortnite Twitter account is teasing a Futurama and Fortnite crossover event beginning tomorrow, July 26! The text in the post reads, “ALL HAIL HYPNOTOAD. 7.26.23.” The interactive event will help celebrate Hulu’s Futurama revival, which kicked off on Monday, July 24.

Details about the Futurama and Fortnite crossover remain a mystery. Still, if this event is like any other, players can expect wacky character skins, cosmetics, gliders, and unique locations on the ever-changing map. Can we expect character skins for Fry, Bender, Leela, Zoidberg, and the rest of the crew? How about a Planet Express glider to ride into the action? Will characters like Amy Wong, Hermes Conrad, Professor Farnsworth, Zapp Branigan, Kif Kroker, and Nibbler be a part of the event? Thankfully, we won’t have to wait long to find out.

Futurama premiered in 1999, bringing satiric comedy center stage for a hilarious look at the world of tomorrow. The series follows Phillip J. Fry (Billy West), a New York City pizza delivery boy who accidentally freezes himself in 1999 and gets defrosted in the year 3000. In this astonishing New New York, he befriends hard-drinking robot Bender (John DiMaggio) and falls in love with cyclops Leela (Katey Sagal). The trio finds work at the Planet Express Delivery Company, founded by Fry’s doddering descendant, Professor Hubert Farnsworth. Together with accountant Hermes Conrad, assistant Amy Wong, and alien lobster Dr. John Zoidberg, they embark on thrilling adventures that take them to every corner of the universe. After its initial run on the Fox Broadcasting Network, a roller-coaster of cancellations and resurrections ensued. Four successful direct-to-DVD releases in 2007-2009 led to the show’s rebirth on Comedy Central from 2010-2013. Then, after a brief 10-year freeze in the cryogenic chamber, Futurama emerged triumphantly as a streaming series for Hulu & Disney+ with a 20-episode order.

John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, and David Herman star in Futurama Season 11!

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve fired up Fortnite (Diablo IV has taken over my life), but I’m logging in tomorrow to find out what this Futurama Fortnite crossover event is all about. I want a Leela skin, dammit!
