INTRO:
Do
you like zombies? How about shooting hordes upon hordes of them in a Total
Carnage-esque bloodbath reminiscent of days of yore? Well, you’re in luck
because this little network-capable indie game is here. This little arena
shooter is a great way to spend an afternoon. Score whore? Multiplier lover?
This one is made for you.
GAMEPLAY:
As I mentioned before, this game doesn’t have a lot of depth. It promises
lots of zombie gut blasting and delivers. You walk around with one stick,
strafe with a shoulder button and auto target with another. Even more
importantly, the opposite shoulder button (R2) will allow you to swing your
torch and ignite crowds of the bright green undead. Remember how I mentioned
score multipliers? That’s the best way to do it, burn ’em up (so it’s NOT
just a clever title)! There’s more though- you fire your weapon (obviously),
can kick bombs and other explosives and you can set bombs to blow up. You
can access bonus weapons and all kinds of powerups (cricket bats? chainsaws?
other fanboy weapons? check.) and even a DANCE RAY! Yes, it plays thriller.
Badass.
you light the dudes on fire, they go crazy. They hack you up and basically get
tougher. They’ll go straight for you and they’re a pain in the butt. Also,
you’ll notice that zombies drop different things depending on whether or not
they’re alight. You need to balance this stuff out- do you help your rescuees,
or do you upgrade your TNT abilities? Strategy at its frantic best! If you don’t
light dudes up, you won’t get medals and unlockables but if you do light them,
you’re in for some pain. So suck it up and torch those brain munchers!
modes. You get Survive the Zombies, and I can’t explain that one. You also get
Beat the Clock, where you will be killing dudes to get time powerups. Lastly,
you get Protect Daisy, where you have to protect your girlfriend as she sits in
a car. You can also play multiplayer and some really fun challenges (think
absurd achievements)
Gameplay: 7.5/10
GRAPHICS:
The graphics aren’t the best I’ve seen, but the whole atmosphere and
graphical style is awesome. Everything is like a wacky cartoon and the
zombies look hilarious. The weapon and fire effects look good, too. In fact,
I enjoyed the whole look so much I’d often be caught up starting and
laughing while the zombies killed me. Great visual style.
Graphics: 5/10
AUDIO:
Sound is also great, just what you’d expect. A nice rocking soundtrack and
lots of hilarious little quips from Bruce (yeah, his name is Bruce) along
with big booms and zombie moans. It’s not award winning stuff but it
definitely works some magic and is worth your cash.
Audio: 7.5/10
FINAL VERDICT:
I couldn’t rate this game with 10s because it is a budget title. With that
being said it’s a worthy budget title. Any game that lets me rip a zombie’s
brain out of its head and then shoot it at another zombie gets high marks.
This classic-feeling retro shooter will have you laughing and slaughtering
at the same time, although you will die many times.
