INTRO:
I played the first
Resistance shortly after I got my PS3 a year or so ago. I thought it was a
decent game and enjoyed playing it.
I didn’t understand why people thought it was a ‘Halo Killer’ or anything but I
dig the game. It’s humans vs. aliens and our very existence is at stake. Sound
familiar? Didn’t think so.

Anyway, we’re here now in
2009 and a sequel is upon us. The player takes control of Sgt. Nathan Hale who
also happens to be infected with a virus that could change him into one of the
evil Chimera. So what are you kids waiting for? Fire up your hefty Dual Shock 3
controllers and let’s tear this place apart!

GAMEPLAY:

I wasn’t trying to sell
the original Resistance short earlier. I thought it was a fun game and the
experience was one I’d revisit over and over again. But does the sequel live
up to the hype and mystique of the original? Absolutely, it does.
Resistance two really manages to outshine the original title in many
ways, the patchy story notwithstanding.

The first game felt a bit
repetitive after awhile. It seemed as if you were in just another post
apocalyptic warzone and it got old after awhile. The environments in this game
have been improved dramatically and you’ll no longer feel as if you’re trudging
a long. You’ll battle in forests and streets and the whole thing feels like it’s
on a grander stage.

And the AI characters and
NPCs are just brilliant. The NPCs will actually be useful to you and won’t hog
all of the fun. They flank with you and help you kill stuff, which is all you
can ask for. The enemies are great too and there are tons of them.
And new enemy types? Yeah, they’re here in Resistance two: you get giant
Ravagers, Chameleons who appear at will and Furies, awesome water Chimeras.
You’ll fight huge waves of guys on the screen which makes for intense
experience.

And how about the weapons?
It’s true you can’t carry as many now but you get some great ones. I won’t spoil
them all but let’s just say you’ll get to make a real mess from time to time,
and with only two slots you can be sure you will be willing to mix ‘em up to see
what you like.

I was surprised at how
tense this game is too, and well paced. The whole thing is like a dark, sci-fi
action movie and I jumped quite a few times while playing it.
The story is well balanced (although it has some holes) and doesn’t get
too heavy handed. You’ve always got to be
on your toes and have eyes in the back of your head. And don’t even get me
started on the bosses. They’re huge, tough and really unique. Great game design
at work here folks.

Gameplay: 9/10

GRAPHICS:

The graphics in Resistance
are quite nice too, but aren’t perfect. Things tend to be a little buggy,
and gravity goes all to hell. After you shoot baddies, their limbs will be
suspended in midair, which is very strange. Also there are clipping issues
from time to time which will take you out of the experience.

With that being said
though, this game is no slouch. You will get waves of bad guys that stream in
with no lag. Explosions are dandy and scale plays a big part in this game.
Bosses are huge and environments are detailed with nice textures.

Graphics: 8.5/10

AUDIO:

This game has GREAT sound
design and that helps a lot. The voice acting is great from the whole crew
and the enemies are terrifying and horrible at the same time. Their

shrieking and growling will always tip you off that very bad things are
happening. Very impressive.

Audio: 10/10

FINAL VERDICT:

There you have it, folks.
This game succeeds on a grand stage and I’m impressed. The game aims to show
you that you will be struggling to overcome insurmountable odds and it
succeeds. You will feel waves of tension washing over you while you play and
after you kill the single player mode you can jump into the multiplayer mode
which some people like even more than the single player!
It doesn’t break a lot of new ground, but Resistance 2 is worth your
money and I would recommend any PS3 owner to snatch it up- yes PS3 owners,
that thing is more than the greatest Blu-Ray player out there!

Final Score: 9/10
