Game: Stubbs the Zombie

I never felt the need to review a video game before but had to put the good word
out on this one, because I’m having a blast over here! The game?
STUBBS THE ZOMBIE.

What’s the vibe?
Third person action game created with a
tweaked up Halo engine. Who
made it? Wideload Games and the Producer of Halo. Why is it a
hoot? Here we go!

THE STORY: “Stubbs The Zombie: Rebel
Without a Pulse”
takes place in this odd world which mixes kitsch Pop 50’s
with a striking future like motif. Dropped into this peculiar mix is ex

door-to-door salesman
Stubbs, who yes now happens to be a Zombie. He has a grudge to bare with the
town and a craving for brains that must be satisfied. You do the math as to what
goes down next! BRAINSSS!

FUN TIMES:
Its not everyday that you get to be a Zombie and do all the lovely things that
Zombies do. As the too kool for school Stubbs we get to eat people’s brains,
throw our grenade guts at our enemies, drive futuristic vehicles (yes we can run
people over with them), let out daze inducing putrid undead farts and convert the living
into the undead to then lead them into battle. YEEHAW! Yup…this aint no Miss
Pac Man!

Filled with outrageous humor,
outlandish gore and totally left field narrative turns, this game had me going
and then some. The graphics and designs were stellar, unique and detailed. The
violence was somewhat cartoonish yet deliciously excessive. The settings ranged
from familiar (loved causing mayhem in that Police Station) to totally odd! And
the jokes just never stopped rolling in. I busted a gut many o times due to the
“one liners” my victims would spurt out as I slurped in their noggin juice and I
could never get enough of hearing my Zombie brothers scream out “BRAINSSS!”,
Return of the Living Dead style! HILARIOUS! Yes I’m an easy man to please.

One of the top highlights for me
though had to do with “the hand” gag. You see Stubbs can detach his hand and
throw it away. That leads us the gamer into becoming the hand. As a hand we can stick to walls and crawl where ever we want
(love traveling them air shafts). Think an ALIEN facehugger or the EVIL DEAD 2 five fingered bugger. What a blast!
Furthermore; as a hand, we can possess anybody we want by digging our fingers into their
cranium and turning the host into our puppet. DO THY BIDDING! MOOUAAAAA!

Tag to all that sweet loving
highly unique and comical “story segments” in between “game time” that actually
made me want to watch them and jiving 50’s ditties performed by modern bands
like

The Dandy Warhols

and the

The Raveonettes

and you get an original, wacky and horror friendly good time!

BAH: Although the game got semi redundant at times, my main peeve had to do with the
level sizes where the environments were often too vast. Result; if you’re
aimless like me, expect to walk around lost many o times and to spend hours
looking for the “right” way to go. Pretty much my sole complaint about the game
to be honest…

BOTTOM LINE: STUBBS THE ZOMBIE
was an
action packed, gory, kooky, unpredictable and gut splitting good time that has
you live the life of a cigarette smoking and offbeat Zombie. The latter
statement alone makes it worth playing if you ask me! Who doesn’t want to be
Stubbs? He definitely has Cult icon and "movie" spin-off possibilities tagged to
his ass. He’s just that kool!  Sure I kept getting lost
due to the never ending maps, but I took breaks and went back to them…and
eventually found my way. Wanna be a Zombie? Hit this off the wall game and taste
brains for the first time.  Back to playing THE STUBBS I GO!
