INTRO:
Ok, so I’m not the biggest fan of the new Wolverine movie. It was
unquestionably better than X3, but that’s no difficult feat. Here we are
again as gamers, stuck with another movie licensed game that could redeem
the franchise, or perhaps just stick it to us once again. Now it’s your turn
to finally take control of Wolvie and unleash the razor sharp adamantium
claws, feral instincts, and mutant regeneration powers. Find out how things
came to be for Logan and defy the odds, killing many a dude along the way.
GAMEPLAY:
When I fired this game up, I must admit that I was impressed. If you’re a
Wolverine fan, I think that you’ll really dig this game. Packed in an
incredibly stylish package, you will get to do what Wolverine does best-
slash and rip and kill many bad guys. The game really earns its mature
rating.
Essentially playing like a God of War rip-off, you will really feel the rage of
our protagonist in this one. You start out in Africa and progress through
history, sort of following the plot of the movie.
Initially, I wanted to say that this one was a bit too repetitive for my
liking but as I mentioned before, it feels good to kill everything in sight.
The best part is that you end up going back in time to kill bad guys who
gave you trouble before, except this time you will have leveled up.
The concept is simple- the more you fight, the more you level up. The more you
level up, the better you get at killing guys and the more abilities you gain.
You pretty much tear through this one at a breakneck speed, so don’t worry
about strategy. The only real strategy involved is finding out where to go
next, where you can use a ‘feral sense’ to guide your way.
Now I will warn you, if you’re not a big fan, you could find this game getting
a little old because of the level design. Although levels and bosses can look
different, each one feels the same, especially the boss fights, which really
lack variety. Sure, I felt a little
bored at times, but it didn’t last because I felt that this game really nailed
the ‘feel’ of Wolverine. Control is smooth, gore is present and you have enough
moves to really rend some limbs for at least one good game session.
Gameplay: 7.5/10
GRAPHICS:
I thought the graphics were really quite pretty in this title. Digital Logan
looks just like Jackman and character models are fairly good. With that
said, the camera can be quite terrible at times and bugs can leave bodies
floating. The animations are good, and the gory quick kills are fantastic.
You’ll definitely be thrilled with the gore in this game and the graphics
represent it fairly well.
Graphics: 7.5/10
AUDIO:
Sound is pretty good too, and what you need to hear is that ‘snikety-snik’
sound of claws through flesh. The sound is there, and it is wonderful.
Jackman provide the voice of Wolverine, and does a great job of it too. In
fact, a lot of the voice cast is quite good, although some of the work logs
you find are hard to hear sometimes because you’re busy killing guys.
Music is decent enough.
Audio: 7/10
FINAL VERDICT:
This game doesn’t suck! I found it to be a very enjoyable run-through and
definitely was worth my time. Should you buy it? That’s a tough question.
The game is only 8 hours long, give or take and doesn’t have a ton of replay
value although it does sport some nifty unlockables. I bought it and I’m not
disappointed, but you may want to rent it first to make sure it rocks your
house.
