Gareth Edwards gives a pre-Comic Con update on Godzilla

Last Updated on February 11, 2026

Director Gareth Edwards is just about done filming on GODZILLA and Comic Con is in a few days, so we should be getting some awesome news about the reboot soon, right? Right.

Edwards confirmed as much in this video he released through Legendary. The director says that Legendary has something “very exciting” planned and something big is coming to San Diego. Edwards didn’t give many details, but he did reveal that one of the clues is the website GodzillaEncounter.com.

At the website there are fake news articles that obviously tease Godzilla’s existence, and what’s interesting is certain letters in the headlines are colored red, like the one I’ve posted below. There’s only been three “encounters” so far, but after a few more updates the puzzle might become a little clearer.

I really want GODZILLA to be scary as hell with plenty of destruction, and hopefully whatever Legendary ends up bringing to Comic Con does blow everyone away. Or at least help us forget the 1998 film.

GODZILLA with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe will be in theaters on May 16th, 2014.
