Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla composer to score Star Wars spin-off Rogue One

Alexandre Desplat will provide the score for the Star Wars spin-off film ROGUE ONE, reuniting him with GODZILLA director Gareth Edwards. Desplat revealed the news during an interview on Radio Classique's Culture Club.

The French composer recently won a Best Original Score Oscar for his work on Wes Anderson's THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL, and Alexandre Desplat has also scored dozens of other movies, including THE IMITATION GAME, ARGO and THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON.

Gareth Edwards will direct ROGUE ONE from a script by Chris Weitz (ABOUT A BOY) and it will star THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING actress Felicity Jones.

Although ROGUE ONE is a spin-off, it's still going to be a little strange to watch a Star Wars movie that doesn't have a John Williams score. But Alexandre Desplat is an absolutely fantastic composer, and I'm very excited he will be doing the score for the upcoming film.

Production on ROGUE ONE will reportedly start sometime this summer, and it is scheduled to be in theaters on December 16, 2016.
