One of my favorite moments in season 3 of the Netflix series / pop culture phenomenon Stranger Things was when Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) makes long distance radio contact with his girlfriend Suzie (Gabriella Pizzolo), seeking her help – but before she'll provide the help he needs, she insists that he join her in a sing-along to the theme from The Neverending Story. It's a really fun, cute scene… but some viewers have detected a darker edge to the Suzie character that I don't think series creators the Duffer brothers and their collaborators intended.
Sure, some viewers have complained that Suzie's sing-along wasted precious time and put Hopper (David Harbour) in greater danger, but others have gone even further with their dislike and distrust of Suzie.
Speaking with Daily Variety, Gaten Matarazzo said,
My favorite theory is that Suzie's actually a Russian mastermind and spy working with the Russian government. I think it's so stupid and so funny. I hope that doesn’t play out because that would be weird."
Matarazzo went on to say that it's hard to predict what will be happening with Dustin in the show's upcoming fourth season, because
I don’t really know where the characters are going. He’s flapping in the wind at this point. At the end of the season, all the kids are divided because everyone moves away from Hawkins. Eleven goes with Will and Joyce to go try and find some type of peace and the rest of the gang stays behind. I don’t necessarily know how that’s going to work. I mean Mike and El being separated is crazy. I think fans are going to freak out."
Matarazzo will find out where the characters are going when he reports to set for the filming of season 4 in January.
