Gears gets Legendary

It’s no secret that uber-popular X-Box 360 game GEARS OF WAR has been slated to be made into a flick. It’s also no secret that UNDERWORLD’s Len Wiseman has already been signed to direct off a script from Chris Morgan, who rewrote a draft by Stuart Beattie.

Well word coming from Variety today has Legendary Pictures jumping on the GEARS OF WAR wagon. Legendary will be co-financing and co-producing the flick, so looks like we’re in for something big. How else are you going to do GEARS OF WAR? The game has a huge fanbase and seems like it can translate well into a film… then again no other game-to-flick has since STREET FIGHTER (kidding…) so we shall see.

GEARS OF WAR is coming from New Line with Temple Hill’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey producing. Executive producer Cliff Bleszinski was also the game’s lead designer, so he’ll also be consulting.

GEARS OF WAR is about a world beset by aliens known as the Locust and a team of soldiers fighting to retake the planet. If you’ve ever played the game you know that that team of soldiers is a group of badass characters. I dug the game a lot and am definately looking forward to the movie, here’s hoping Len Wiseman was a ‘wise’ choice… no pun intended.
