Boy, Gemma Arterton and Noomi Rapace seem to be vying for a lot of the same parts…
Back in September, it was learned that Jeremy Renner and Noomi Rapace were said to be cast as the two leads in Tommy Wirkola’s HANSEL & GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS. Well, it appears Noomi is out and Gemma Arterton is in (Variety). Renner on the other hand, stays put!
Of course, Arterton (seen above and below) and Rapace are no strangers to competing with one another, both we’re said to be heavily considered (and still may be) to head-line Ridley Scott’s much ballyhooed ALIEN prequel. Truth be told, I’m more inclined to say Arterton is better for this part, but that’s only because I’m a little more familiar with her work than Rapace’s. Still, Rapace has a dark, brooding quality that could have lent to a better retelling of the fairytale. Oh well, all that’s for naught!
WITCH HUNTERS, penned by D.W. Harper, chronicles the fairy-tale siblings 15 years after their traumatic gingerbread house incident, which provoked them to become witch bounty hunters.
Sounds cool, and with Renner and Arterton in the spotlight, the film should be well played. It is odd though that there’s a 15 year difference between on-screen siblings (yes, Renner will be 40 this year)…the same amount of time elapsed between the original fairytale and the events that will transpire in the film. Guess we’ll see how it pans out…
Until then, what do you think about the casting choice? Diggin’ Gemma in the lead, or would Rapace be better? If not them, who else entirely?
