Genesis Rodriguez lands female lead in Kevin Smith’s Tusk

One of the more interesting projects that has recently popped up on our radar is Kevin Smith's TUSK, a strange sounding body horror flick that the director has described as "a cuddly version of THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE". We first heard word on this project back in July and later learned that Justin Long would be sharing the screen with RED STATE star Michael Parks and today we have learned that THE LAST STAND actress Genesis Rodriguez is now in final negotiations for the films female lead, according to Variety.

We've also picked up on a few more plot details for TUSK as the film has recently been described as…

…a story [that] follows a podcaster who sets out to interview an eccentric, reclusive old seafarer, only to find himself a plaything in the gruesome plot of a deranged killer.

Considering the film was birthed from one of Smith's SMODcast podcasts, it's kind of a wink-and-a-nod to the audience to introduce Long's character as a podcaster.

Demarest Films will finance and produce. Demarest’s Sam Englebardt and William D. Johnson will produce alongside Shannon McIntosh for Smith’s Smodcast Pictures banner. Demarest’s David Greathouse and Jennifer Schwalbach are exec producers.

Production on TUSK is set to start next month with Smith aiming for an early 2014 premiere at next years Sundance Film Festival.
