George Clooney on why he can’t offer an opinion on Ben Affleck as Batman

George Clooney has always been vocal regarding his less than stellar turn as the Caped Crusader in BATMAN AND ROBIN. In fact, he knows far too well how the backlash can feel when things don’t go quite as planned. The Joel Schumacher disaster practically killed the franchise and made fans universally wary of any additional installments. After Christopher Nolan‘s trilogy starring Christian Bale, no one could have gotten the part without some sort of online hate. Nothing prepared the Internet for what happened when Ben Affleck was cast.

Clooney has survived his Batman ordeal and turned into one damn fine actor and director. He even partnered with Affleck to make ARGO. The two have a professional friendship so naturally the media wants to know what Clooney thinks about Affleck taking the mantle of the Bat for BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. Clooney’s answer is classic George:

“I am the least qualified person to comment on anyone playing the role of Batman since I so terribly destroyed the part,” he said, adding: “I tend to look at it like this – let’s just see what the movie is before everyone starts beating him up. He is a smart man, he knows what he is doing.”

I agree entirely that we cannot judge Ben Affleck until we have seen something from BATMAN VS SUPERMAN. To date we have not a single image of the costume or anything because they haven’t filmed anything yet! Chill out, Internet! Once those initial photos and videos leak then we can begin to say if things don’t look good. But even then we need to be cautious until some actual film is available.

BATMAN VS SUPERMAN opens July 15, 2015. Until then, remember this:
