George’s dirty secret

Today Fangoria had a little sit-down with actor Johnathon Schaech about a Bentley Little story that both he and Richard Chizmar (CEMETARY DANCE) had adapted for an episode for the 2nd season of MASTERS OF HORROR. When news originally surfaced that the two were working on this story, the details were sketchy at best. Leave it to Fangoria to sort that out.

The story, called “The Washingtonians” (which can be found in Bentley’s short story collection called, er, The Collection), tells the tale of a man who finds a letter written by George Washington which contains descriptions of eating children and using their bones to construct tools. The letter is determined to be authentic and slowly the man discovers that history as we know it is a sham used to keep the American public compliant. Sounds like a mix of 1984 and CONSPIRACY THEORY with an obvious horror twist. It’d probably explain why Washington wore false teeth, too.

In the interview, Schaech says that the script is fun, and that it should be a great episode. “We pitched a bunch of ideas to Mick [Garris] and the guys over at Showtime, and they loved the one based on Little’s short story. I think we wrote a really good screenplay, and I’m excited by it.” Speaking of Mick Garris, he’s currently looking for a director for the episode, which I’m sure everyone and their dog would have an opinion over who they would choose.
