Those who only know Jim Caviezel for his dramatic role as Jesus Christ in Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ could be in for a shock. The actor will trade his cross and crown of thorns for heavy artillery and an invisibility cloak in the upcoming action film Ghost Soldier, allowing him to dole out biblical justice and deliver one-liners like a seasoned action star.
From ‘The Passion’ to ‘Ghost Recon’
“In the action-thriller Ghost Soldier, Jim Caviezel stars as Henry ‘Fitz’ Fitzgerald a solitary man with a mysterious past, living a quiet life off the grid in his hometown. But when a powerful foreign corporation descends on his community, determined to seize his and his neighbors’ land for a massive payday, Fitz takes action — he’s actually a former Special Forces soldier and advanced weapons developer. Armed with weapons no one has ever seen, a lifetime of lethal military training, and an unwavering code of justice, Fitz becomes the one thing his enemies never anticipated: a one-man war they can’t win.” The press release for the film also sports its action tagline: “He’s not a threat, he’s a guarantee.”
William Eubank directs from a script written by Chris Papasadero. David Zelon and William Sherak are on board as producers. Meanwhile, Jim Caviezel, Joseph Micucci, Paul Neinstein, and James Vanderbilt are serving as executive producers on the film.
In addition to Caviezel, Ghost Soldier stars Garret Dillahunt, Shea Whigham, Olivia Thirlby, and Beau Knapp. With guys like Shea Whigham and Garret Dillahunt in the mix, you know the character work will be fun.
A Pitch-Perfect Throwback to ’80s B-Movie Action
The film appears to lean heavily into 1980s and ’90s B-movie action, blending Ghost Recon-like tech with a one-soldier-against-the-world vibe that feels nostalgic and as unserious as you’d like. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen an action movie of this ilk that doesn’t punch above its weight, and I think it’s refreshing. Caviezel’s character is over-the-top for sure, but I’m kind of into it. I don’t need my action movies to be cerebral affairs. All I need is a charismatic cast, outlandish action, and a reason to stay in the fight.
Distributed by Sony Pictures, the film is scheduled for release in theaters on November 6, 2026.
