Ghostbusters (1984) vs Ghostbusters 2 (1989) – Face Off

Most people probably wouldn’t know what to do, but we 80s kids know exactly where to turn when we’re bothered by a spook, ghost, or specter. Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS, of course. They are the supreme team to rid us of any unwanted supernatural beings or things that go bump in the night. They proved that across three feature films, an animated series, and a pretty rad video game that worked as a third film until the actual third film became a reality…

But there are eager fans who are keen on settling a decades-long debate — which Ghostbusters film is superior? The original or its sequel? Both films have the same talent in front and behind the camera — with a cast led by Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis, and Annie Potts, a script by Ramis and Aykroyd, along with Ivan Reitman taking on directing duties. The first film kicked it all off in 1984, with cutting-edge special effects, memorable quips, and plenty of ghostbustin’! It received critical acclaim for its blend of comedy, action, and horror and became a cultural phenomenon. However, the second outing for the gang, GHOSTBUSTERS II, seemed to spur a negative reaction while the first one is held in the highest of regards. But is the sequel really an inferior movie though? There’s only one way to find out. So fire up your proton pack and do NOT cross those streams, as we show these films how we do things downtown: Face Off!

This episode of Face Off is written by Bryan Wolford, narrated by Shawn Knippelberg, and edited by Lance Vlcek. Let us know in the comments which film you prefer – Ghostbusters or Ghostbusters II!
