Almost all of the big theatrical releases we were supposed to see in 2020 got moved into 2021 when the pandemic hit – and since the pandemic hasn't gone away, it looks like we're going to be seeing another series of "delayed release" announcements. Soon after MGM announced that the new James Bond film No Time to Die is moving from April to October, Sony made a similar move and announced that they're delaying the release of director Jason Reitman's Ghostbusters: Afterlife from June 11 to November 11.
November 11, 2021 is the fourth release date Afterlife has been given. The movie was originally supposed to reach theatres on July 10, 2020, then moved to March 5, 2021 before shifting to June.
Scripted by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, Ghostbusters: Afterlife serves as a sequel to the original Ghostbusters (watch it HERE) and Ghostbusters II (watch that one HERE), films which were directed by Reitman's father Ivan Reitman. Afterlife stars Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon as a family that
moves back home to a small town. While there, they begin to learn more about who they are and the secrets of the town itself.
Paul Rudd, Bokeem Woodbine, Tracy Letts, Celeste O'Connor, Logan Kim, and Oliver Cooper are also in the cast, with Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts reprising their roles from the original films.
Apparently these actors are joined in the cast by a ghost called Muncher, who looks sort of like a six-armed, blue version of the iconic Slimer. Muncher is featured in the merchandise tie-ins that are being made, and also made an appearance on a Ghostbusters-themed segment of Master Chef Junior Spain.
