Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire – Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel’s teaser trailer suggests bigger roles for original characters

The official Ghostbusters X account recently promised that “something strange is coming soon“… and that something is the first trailer for the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife! The teaser trailer for the film, which is going by the title Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, has arrived online and can be seen in the embed above. This trailer arrived four months ahead of the film’s theatrical release, which is scheduled for March 29, 2024.

Judging by the trailer, it looks like we will be seeing more of the original Ghostbusters in this film than we saw in Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman was expected to take the helm of the sequel, but he stepped down to allow Gil Kenan to direct. “It’s an absolute honor to pick up the proton pack and step behind the camera for the next chapter of the Spengler family saga,” Gil Kenan said in a statement at the time. “I just wish I could go back to 1984 and tell the kid in the sixth row of the Mann Valley West that one day he was going to get to direct a Ghostbusters film.

In his own statement, Jason Reitman said: “A few years ago, my father handed me the keys to Ecto-1 and together we made Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Words will never express how grateful I am to have made a film with my father by my side. It’s now time to hand those keys to my creative partner and fellow Ghostbuster Gil Kenan, a brilliant director who will keep the Spengler spirit alive. I can only hope to provide him the same producorial care and support that my father showed me.” Reitman did co-write the script for the sequel with Kenan and will also produce.

The sequel stars Mckenna Grace as Phoebe Spengler, Finn Wolfhard as Trevor Spengler, Carrie Coon as Callie Spengler, Paul Rudd as Gary Grooberson, Celeste O’Connor as Lucky Domingo, Logan Kim as Podcast, Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd as Raymond Stantz, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, and Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz. Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind are also included in the cast, as well as a surprising return from the original movie.
