Ghosts in your PSP

A couple days back, Capcom announced that one of their best arcade games ever, Ghosts ‘N Goblins, was heading to the PSP.

Gamespot broke the news that the game, which was first announced this past August for Japan, would debut on Sony’s handheld in North America this fall. The game will carry the name Ultimate Ghosts ‘N Goblins, and rather than being a straight port from the arcade, the game will have a new adventure for franchise hero Sir Arthur. As well, the game will have a couple tweaks, starting with the game engine itself, which is based on a new 3D graphics engine that provides more-detailed characters and environments. It will also have a branching storyline that will see Arthur pick up new objects to take on new foes across five stages, each with a boss battle at the end.

Gamers who’ve blown quarters on this game in the arcade or smashed their NES controller due to the unforgiving diffuculty of the game are in luck this time. Arthur’s suit can now withstand more than one hit before falling off. You’ll be able to take two or three hits, before losing your armor completely, but getting hit with no armor on is still sudden death. Also, when you die, you won’t return to a checkpoint as you did in previous games. Here, you’ll rematerialize after a death and continue on from where you left off. But if you think the game is any easier because of this, guess again. Expect constant waves of monsters to come at you, even if you’re standing still.

Arthur himself also displays some new tricks as well, including the ability to automatically grab nearby ledges if you fall or need to pull yourself up to a higher ledge, instead of dropping like a rock in previous editions. As well, new weapons will make their way into the game, along with new suits of armor to beef up your attacks.
