Gina Carano set to join the cast of Star Wars TV series The Mandalorian

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Hello again, Star Wars fans, it's been a hot minute since we last spoke, no? Actually, it hasn't. In fact, it was just yesterday when we'd received word that Pedro Pascal had been cast as the lead for Jon Favreau's THE MANDALORIAN, an upcoming Star Wars television series destined for Disney's exclusive streaming service, Disney+. With the GAME OF THRONES alum set to lead the new endeavor, it is my pleasure to inform you that DEADPOOL and FURIOUS 6 badass Gina Carano has recently joined the cast as well.

The fitness model and former mixed martial artist turned actress who once landed a solid fist to Colossus' kettlebells is yet another exciting get for the series penned and executive produced by SWINGERS and IRON MAN director Jon Favreau. Her role in the upcoming space adventure is being kept under wraps for the moment, though we have been informed that the series will take place after the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. THE MANDALORIAN is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. When THE MADALORIAN arrives. Star Wars fans the world over will follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

Set to direct the first episode of the series is STAR WARS REBELS and STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS alum Dave Filoni. Then, as a way of adding some spice to the flavor of this intriguing new project, it's been said that Taika Waititi (THOR: RAGNAROK, JOJO RABBIT), Bryce Dallas Howard (JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM, GOLD), Rick Famuyiwa (DOPE), and JESSICA JONES alumna Deborah Chow will shoot episodes as well.

Oh dang! It sounds to me like the Star Wars universe just got a hell of a lot more dangerous with Carano in the mix. I would not want to run into her in a dark alley, or any foreign planet for that matter. With Pascal and Carano confirmed for THE MANDALORIAN, I can feel myself getting real excited about this new series. After all, Favreau is no slouch when it comes to crafting fantastic tales of a sci-fi and fantasy variety, and I can't wait to see how he'll take advantage of a universe as vast as the one found in Star Wars. Bring it the hell on, I say.
