Gina Carano to beat down a new batch of baddies for In the Blood

Gina Carano, the 29 year-old MMA fighter who so struck Steven Soderbergh that he was willing to build an entire movie around her fantastic combination of looks and skill set, announced at the Berlin Film Festival that she has signed on to star in an action thriller movie entitled IN THE BLOOD. The director is a dude named John Stockwell (CODE NAME: GERONIMO), pictured right, while the movie will be produced by Shaun Redick and Ray Mansfield (THE MESSENGER). While I’m wary about the choice of Stockwell, THE MESSENGER was a great film, so perhaps he has shown the producers something that really caught their eye just as Carano caught Soderbergh’s.  The script for IN THE BLOOD was written by Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnson (“Unhitched”).

“Described as being in the vein of Taken, In the Blood is set in motion when a husband disappears while vacationing in the Caribbean with his wife, to be played by Carano. The grieving wife passionately and recklessly pursues the men whom she believes kidnapped and killed him.”  Stockwell shared that he believes “this role will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past.”  Meaning that the kidnapping is maybe tied to her character’s past and the secrets therein? Oy.  I’d complain about having seen this sort of set-up before, but then HAYWIRE was the same way and still extremely entertaining.  So I’m going to try and withhold judgement until I see some footage which, since shooting is set to start in late spring or early summer, shouldn’t be all too far away.

Oh, and Merry Christmas in February, Schmoes! Technically this isn’t a picture of Carano, but she once used it in a Merry Christmas message and that’s good enough for me.
