Girl in the Spider’s Web scribe to pen Battlestar Galactica feature

Word has traveled across the stars and into our eager ears that Jay Basu, the writer behind Fede Alvarez's 2018 adaptation of author David Lagercrantz's THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB, has been tasked to pen a re-write of the screenplay for Universal's BATTLESTAR GALACTICA movie. As the story goes, Basu will be re-tooling the project's previous draft written by WESTWORLD co-creator Lisa Joy, which is set to be helmed by HUNGER GAMES filmmaker Francis Lawrence.

As you would suspect, the long-gestating project will be presented as a reimagining of the 1978 sci-fi series centering on a crew of humans aboard a spacefaring battleship after they've survived an unprecidented robot onslaught that has left their numbers in short supply. With nothing but their smarts, ingenuity, and will to survive, the group must rebuild civilization from the ground up, lest they want the human race to become extinct.

Producing the endeavor is Dylan Clark for his Dylan Clark Productions alongside Michael De Luca via his Michael De Luca Productions. News of the reboot is bound to excite fans of the franchise, who haven't felt the glory of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA's might since Ronald D. Moore and Glen A. Larson rebooted the fan-favorite property for television in 2003. The reboot lasted for four action-packed seasons, and featured Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Michael Hogan, Tricia Helfer, James Callis, Grace Park, and Katee Sackhoff as contributors to the gritty space saga.

Jay Polidoro and Lexi Barta will oversee the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA movie, with Scott Stuber, the former vice chairman of worldwide production at Universal and current head of original films at Netflix, executive producing.

Oh my stars, is this finally happening? My wife is going to freak out. She's a major BSG fan, as are many of my close friends. I've never partaken of the series myself, but I look forward to seeing what it's all about when the film reaches theaters. Because I'll totally be going. My wife will make sure of that. Even the thought of defying her on the matter sends a shiver down my spine. Hell hath no fury like a sci-fi fan scorned, amiright?
