Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival

Despite shifting to Netflix for a streaming release, the Knives Out sequel will see its world premiere on the big screen. It has been announced that Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will debut at the Toronto Film Festival, which runs this year from September 8-18.

Per Deadline, a firm date has not been penciled in for the premiere but it is following in the footsteps of its predecessor. Knives Out had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival back in 2019 before opening in November. The movie would go on to achieve critical and box office success, grossing $311.6 million at the worldwide box office.

Daniel Craig is reprising his role as Detective Benoit Blanc and this time the mystery is taking place in Greece with a slew of new suspects played by a pretty stacked ensemble cast that includes Edward Norton, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, and Madelyn Cline.

Netflix went into a massive deal for a second and third Knives Out film that is said to be worth north of $400 million. This easily makes it one of their most expensive streamer pacts in history but given the success of the first film, they could end up with a huge hit and a critical darling. The first movie earned an Original Screenplay nomination at the Academy Awards among other accolades.

Written and Directed by Rian Johnson and only costing $40 million to make, the original film starred Ana de Armas, Christopher Plummer, Chris Evans, Michael Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, LaKeith Stanfield, and more. The movie was acquired in a single-picture deal by MRC, who then distributed the project via Lionsgate. The licensing was owned by Johnson and his producing pattern Ram Bergman on a picture-by-picture basis which means they could get top dollar for any follow-up deals. Not to look too deep into their pockets but the Netflix pact has made them VERY rich and it is said to also benefit Daniel Craig because part of the Netflix pact also ensured his participation in the two sequels.

No word on when Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will hit Netflix this year but suspect it will launch during the holiday season like its predecessor. Are YOU excited for the next Knives Out mystery?
