Godzilla sequel announced after monstrous opening weekend

I don't think anyone will be surprised by the news that Gareth Edwards' GODZILLA will be getting a sequel after stomping on the competition this past weekend with a huge $93.2 million opening in North America (with $103 million overseas for a global total of $196.2 million) with Deadline reporting that GODZILLA will once again rise from the depths, with Legendary and Warner Brothers already developing the follow-up to their monster hit.

While it remains to be seen if Gareth Edwards will be back at the helm of the confirmed sequel, Edwards has talked about what he would do with a sequel in the past, saying he would use the same kind of restraint that he did for this one. Edwards was given the chance to helm GODZILLA by Legendary’s Thomas Tull who put faith in him to pull this off, having previously done 2010's MONSTERS, which only grossed $2.6M in total. Tull has played coy in the media on the subject of a sequel, waiting for GODZILLA‘s monster opening to confirm sequel plans.

It's awesome to hear that GODZILLA is still the King of the Monsters and will be getting a sequel. What would you like to see from the sequel? Would you like to see Edwards return to helm the sequel? Hit us in the comments below and tell us what you'd want to see.
