Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. is coming to U.S. theatres for the first time

Back in November, Fathom Events and Toho International teamed up to bring the 2002 Godzilla franchise entry Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla to U.S. theatres for the first time… and now they’re set to do the same thing for the 2003 Godzilla movie Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S.! The film will be reaching 600 theatres across the United States on March 22nd.

Tickets are now available on FathomEvents.com, so check and see if Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. is going to be playing at a theatre near you. For this screening, the film will be presented with English subtitles. The one-day event will also include a special showing of Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex, a short that debuted at the 2022 Japan Godzilla Festival as a sequel to the short G vs. G (2019) – never before seen on the big screen!

Directed by Masaaki Tezuka, who wrote the screenplay with Masahiro Yokotani, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. has the following synopsis: Mothra’s twin fairies appear with a warning to Japan… Kiryu (aka Mechagodzilla) must be put to rest at the bottom of the ocean or face the wrath of Mothra. When Godzilla returns once again, will humanity heed the warning or will Kiryu be forced to fight against two monsters?

The film stars Noboru Kaneko, Miho Yoshioka, Mitsuki Koga, Masami Nagasawa, Chihiro Otsuka, Hiroshi Koizumi, Yumiko Shaku, Koh Takasugi, Kenta Suga, Akira Nakao, Koichi Ueda, Naomasa Rokudaira, and Yūsuke Tomoi, with Tsutomu Kitagawa as Godzilla and Motokuni Nakagawa as Kiryu.

Tezuka previously directed Godzilla vs. Megaguirus and Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. Other than this film, Mimura’s Godzilla movie screenplay credits include Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, Godzilla 2000, Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, and Godzilla: Final Wars.

A direct sequel to Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, Godzilla: Tokyo S.O.S. is an entertaining movie with a whole lot of action packed into its 91 minutes. It’s good to know it’s finally going to get some big screen play in the U.S.
