Well, the brains behind DISTRICT 9, that includes Mr. Peter Jackson, sure are going about promoting the flick creatively. I remember watching the trailer a couple of weeks back and not even thinking it was a trailer at first. Very cool stuff. I suggest you check it out here. It seems that the makers are going for a heavy dose of realism with this one and so far, I think it’s working.
For instance, take the new ads I just came across today for D9, which are being featured on both bus stops (above) and highways (below). How friggin’ great is that?! Warnings against picking up “non-humans”! I love it! And I’m also way interested in seeing how this flick plays out. The fairly fascinating plot reads like this:
An extraterrestrial race forced to live in slum-like conditions on Earth suddenly find a kindred spirit in a government agent that is exposed to their biotechnology.
I guess it’s kind of like MEN IN BLACK only less jokey. Peter Jackson is one of the producers on this bad body with Neill Blomkamp directing from a script he co-wrote with Terri Tatchell. The cast of virtual unknowns (nice touch if you’re going for realism) includes Sharlto Copley, David James, Jason Cope, Mandla Gaduka, and Vanessa Haywood. DISTRICT 9 will be heading our way this August.
