SFX master Greg Nicotero joins Blumhouse’s Spawn?

For those who might not know, SFX guru Greg Nicotero is a legend. Co-founder of the classic KNB effects crew (he's the "N") along with  Robert Kurtzman and Howard Berger, Nicotero has been behind-the-scenes of some of the best horror FX work of all-time, including DAY OF THE DEAD, CREEPSHOW 2, PREDATOR, EVIL DEAD II, PHANTASM II, LEATHERFACE: THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III, TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE, THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, ARMY OF DARKNESS, BODY BAGS, JASON GOES TO HELL, PULP FICTION, NEW NIGHTMARE, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN, SCREAM, WISHMASTER, and many more!

Not only that but Nictero has recently become quite THE WALKING DEAD director helming 26 episodes (thus far) including the now-infamous episode where Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan beat the eyeball out of Glenn. And now it seems that Nicotero will be helping out Blumhouse and Todd McFarlane's upcoming reboot of SPAWN starring Jamie Foxx and the recently announced Jeremy Renner. Omega Underground claims that Nicotero will be providing the reboot's effects work. And if this is true, then this movie just got about 65% more badass.

Nicotero also worked on the original film from 1997, which was directed and co-written by Mark A.Z. Dippé from a screenplay written by Alan B. McElroy and begins when:

Covert government assassin Al Simmons (Michael Jai White) is killed after being double-crossed by his boss, Jason Wynn (Martin Sheen). Upon arriving in Hell, Simmons is offered an opportunity to return to Earth if he's willing to lead an evil army. He accepts and is reincarnated as a "Hellspawn" — a twisted, horribly disfigured version of his former self. However, Spawn serves as a force of good, much to the dismay of the Devil's henchman, a wicked clown (John Leguizamo).

The original SPAWN starred Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo, Nicol Williamson, Martin Sheen, Theresa Randle, D. B. Sweeney, Melinda Clarke, and Frank Welker. Thus far we know Foxx and Renner will star in this reboot. Who would you like to see cast next? Let us know below!
