After attaching I, TONYA and ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD megastar Margot Robbie to the long-gestating toys-to-life project, it's been announced that Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach will co-write BARBIE for Warner Bros. In addition to starring in the film, Robbie will also produce via her LuckyChap banner, with Tom Ackerley of LuckyChap Entertainment and Robbie Brenner of Mattel also producing. Additionally, Josey McNamara and Ynon Kreiz are also contributing to the film's producing efforts.
In recent times, Gerwig has been pulling out all the stops for her upcoming LITTLE WOMEN adaptation, which has Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan and Meryl Streep leading the classic tale that some outlets are already calling a major Awards season contender.
As you're likely to know, Barbie is the spokes-character of a global brand that boasts sales of over $3 billion worldwide. Throughout her 50 years as a fashion-forward icon, Barbie has transformed herself while assuming such roles as an astronaut, tech guru, princess, president, veterinarian, mermaid, and over 150 other personas. With Gerwig and Baumbach joining Robbie in bringing Barbie to the big screen, the potential for this film to become a bonafide smash is more promising than ever.
