Last year, we learned that the next film from THE BLACKCOAT'S DAUGHTER and I AM THE PRETTY THING THAT LIVES IN THE HOUSE director Osgood Perkins would be a new take on a classic Brothers Grimm fairy tale, GRETEL AND HANSEL, starring IT's Sophia Lillis as Gretel. Now Orion Pictures has announced that we'll be getting our chance to see GRETEL AND HANSEL next year. The film is officially scheduled to reach theatres on January 31, 2020.

Written by Perkins and Rob Hayes, GRETEL AND HANSEL is set

a long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside and focuses on a young girl who leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.

Lillis is joined in the cast by Sammy Leakey, Alice Krige, Jessica De Gouw, and Charles Babalola.

The film is produced by Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger of Automatik Entertainment, with Sandra Yee Ling serving as executive producer.

Honestly, I wasn't blown away by either of Perkins' previous directorial efforts, but I'm still looking forward to seeing what his version of this familiar fairy tale will be like.
