Family Guy and Star Wars have had a long relationship. The hit animated Fox series has a legacy and run that is probably the closest to a competitor of The Simpsons. For many episodes, creator and star Seth MacFarlane has made little side jokes and cutaways to Star Wars-related content and the show was granted full-on permission to do three separate extended episodes that Family Guy-ized the first three Star Wars movies. They twisted A New Hope with the episode Blue Harvest, The Empire Strikes Back with Something, Something, Something Darkside and Return of the Jedi with It’s a Trap!
Now that Fox and Lucasfilm are under the same Disney umbrella, promotion for The Mandalorian and Grogu includes a crossover meeting with the Griffin’s iconic infant character and Star Wars‘ new iconic infant. A short clip, titled A Lesson in the Force, was released on Hulu, which showcases Stewie thanking Grogu for teaching him in the ways of the Force. Unfortunately, Stewie still has much to learn as he wasn’t able to summon a bowl of cheeseball snacks toward him. You can check it out below.
The official synopsis from Disney reads,
“The evil Empire has fallen, and Imperial warlords remain scattered throughout the galaxy. As the fledgling New Republic works to protect everything the Rebellion fought for, they have enlisted the help of legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. Directed by Jon Favreau, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu also stars Sigourney Weaver and is produced by Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, with music composed by Ludwig Göransson.”
Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, who were both instrumental in making the series on Disney+, return to bring the story to the big screen. “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” Favreau said. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.” Former Lucasfilm head, Kathleen Kennedy, added, “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen.”
The Madalorian and Grogu will be releasing in theaters on May 22.
