The Odyssey

The character of Odysseus encounters many treacherous elements in the form of monsters, unruly suitors and angry gods in The Odyssey. The movie itself, which comes from filmmaker Christopher Nolan, would generate its own opposition online, with casting controversies and outcries of historical inaccuracy from his interpretation. Despite that, Nolan’s epic would gain acclaim from critics and audiences alike, and the box office became bigger than many had predicted. However, in light of the controversies, Elon Musk would take it upon himself to respond by releasing his own version of the story, claiming that his feature would be faithful to Homer’s vision and historically accurate. Musk’s version would be entirely generated by AI.

The Odyssey from Grok Imagine

Months after Musk promised his feature film, Variety reports that the first episode, which clocks in at 7 minutes and 12 seconds, has been released on the Grok Imagine account on X. This version of The Odyssey was made in collaboration with Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker, both of which specialize in AI filmmaking. Musk originally announced that a full-length feature would be ready to go before the end of the year, so more chapters are to be expected.

You can check out the first episode of the series below.

Nolan’s Epic at Home

The Odyssey has earned roughly $1.55 billion worldwide, making it Nolan’s highest-grossing movie to date. A portion of that total is thanks to IMAX screenings, which account for $257 million in ticket sales. If you’re keeping score, this total also makes it the highest-grossing IMAX film ever.

Nolan fans should not expect the filmmaker to return with another film for at least three years. He told TODAY as much while discussing The Odyssey’s harsh filming conditions, saying, “I definitely hit the limits of my own stamina and everybody’s stamina, I think. I mean, it’s ‘The Odyssey,’ of course it should be difficult,” he noted. “We’re not doing the job right making a film of ‘The Odyssey’ if it doesn’t seem difficult.”

Nolan’s film, based on Homer’s epic poem, will be available to rent and purchase on digital on November 17, 2026. If you want a physical copy, you can purchase The Odyssey on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray the same day.
