With perhaps the most outlandish first name we’ve ever had the good fortune to report on (Uwe Boll doesn’t count, does he?), Sxv’leithan Essex (better known as Scully) is poised to write and direct his highest profile project to date.
As a jack of all cinematic trades, Essex has moved from directing music videos, to designing film sets, to writing (BLED), and will now focus his directorial vision to GROWL – a sly sounding monster movie set in the mile-high milieu of the Rocky Mountains.
According to STYD, the film sees “A traveling underground fight club called ‘The Brawlers’ arrive at a derelict ghost town tucked away in the Colorado Rockies. They meet the town’s only residents, the Maxilla family who want to buy on to the fight card. But the Maxilla family’s true intentions for the Brawler crew is soon revealed in teeth and claws. Some will be hunted, some will be feed, and some will become part of the family…whether they like it or not.”
Essex will turn to fortified producer Lee Clary (X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, A-TEAM), and though shooting will commence early next year, GROWL most likely won’t see release until some time in 2011. The worth is in the wait, I guess.
