To help clarify things (but keep them murky at the same time), GDT sent a little message to Del Toro Films about his plans and involvement with the VAN HELSING reboot (assumingly going a different direction than the Stephen Sommers version). Here’s what he had to say:
Van Helsing (writing and producing) is still in talks and not quite certain. Even then, I would like to share my plans only at COMICON. I am taking it slowly and marking very, very carefully the calendar of projects that I will be involved as producer, writer, etc I will not announce the project I intend to direct until then . I am very happy to say that all the projects and partnerships being considered are both quite surprising and, I hope, powerful. Much as I want, I cannot say much more at this time but I anxiously await to share these with you. I will be shopping on the floor in San DIego for several days. See you there!!
And there you have it. VAN HELSING is definitely a project GDT is involved with as a writer / producer, but he wants to wait a month before deciding whether he’ll direct it or not. Pretty cool he’ll be announcing whatever he plans on doing at the Comic Con this year, and that he plans on doing a bit of shopping. That shopping tidbit is probably the biggest news in his entire statement.
