Guillermo del Toro & James Cameron team for At the Mountains of Madness in 3D?!

Well here’s something coming completely out of left field… You see we’ve actually mentioned Guillermo del Toro a few times in the past week, but all in regards to THE HAUNTED MANSION 3D, which the talented filmmaker is producing. That’s all fine and dandy, but what is the madman directing next? It’s no secret del Toro recently dropped out of THE HOBBIT but it’s been hush-hush as to which of his many projects he’d be tackling next as a director… Well it’s been hush-hush until today!

According to the guys over at Deadline New York del Toro has officially announced his next directing gig: AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS! But that’s not all! It seems super-director James Cameron will be on board as well to serve as producer! Oh yeah, James f*cking Cameron! Where the hell did that come from?!

Coming from Universal Pictures, AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS is the ‘scary’ film del Toro mentioned he’d be directing at Comic-Con. It’s no secret that del Toro has had AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS in his crosshairs for a while now, though it was entirely unknown that James Cameron was interested in the project. Oh, and another thing… AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS will be shot in 3D, which of course will take advantage of Cameron’s expertise… Considering he made that AVATAR movie and all…

In the Lovecraft tale, a gruesome discovery made during a scientific expedition to the South Pole in the 1930s hints at the true origin of mankind having come from elder gods from another planet. Bad things happen when those life forms are awakened.

Pre-production on AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS is geared to start up very soon with plans to shoot this little diddy next Summer.

So yeah…. Wow. Talk about some huge news. To be honest AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS never really struck me as an exciting project… but you can color me excited now!
