Guillermo del Toro says he’s spoken to Lucasfilm about Star Wars

With STAR WARS movies being crammed out like IPhones directors of all styles are being sought to bring the universe to life and to keep the juice flowing. It seems like Disney is meeting with everyone they can, even Guillermo del Toro, who seems to have enough on his plate already to last him until they finally decide to make HELLBOY 3 (a.k.a. the end of time. Sad slam).

During an interview with Collider the busy filmmaker spoke about many a’ thing, but mentioned very briefly how he has met with Kathleen Kennedy to talk STAR WARS:

Saying all that caveat, I will say there’s some characters that are great, and I have talked to Kathleen Kennedy and John Knoll about ideas.

He didn’t go into detail about what characters, but this is not the first time he’s talked about ideas for STAR WARS movies. Back in 2015 he mentioned how he wanted to do a GODFATHER-style series around Jabba the Hutt, but that of course is not in development.  He immediately shot down any inkling at he may be doing a STAR WARS movie, though, saying he wants to do hit stuff first:

You know, I wanna do my shit. I want to do it first. I’m veering a lot towards animation. I love animation. The pace is better. You have three years to fuck up, so you fuck up a lot less.

The director seems so busy I can’t imagine he would even have time to fit in a STAR WARS movie, so the odds of us seeing one from him doesn’t even seem like a possibility at this point. At the very least he seems interested in the universe, and maybe the studio will work with some of his ideas, even if he’s not attached as a director or producer. The man has a lucid and wondrous imagination, so I would listen to his thoughts too if I were Kennedy and Knoll. But that's impossible, because I can only be one person at a time.
