Update: New banner and Kaiju fighting robot schematic! Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim viral campaign kicks off with a PSA and…a memo?

UPDATE: New logo (above) and Kaiju Fighting Robot schematic, courtesy of Legendary. 

The viral campaign for Guillermo Del Toro‘s upcoming sci-fi epic, PACIFIC RIM, kicked off today, releasing a PSA and a memo.  Not exactly the stuff of legend, but enough to let you know the project still exists.  It’s been a while since we’ve seen or heard anything from the pic, but the countdown on the main page of “Pan Pacific Defense” lets us know that in 14 days…something will happen.  I’m putting my money on a trailer.

And, here’s the memo:

The names listed on the memo don’t match up to any of the lead characters of the film, so it’s definitely something broader.  Regardless, I’m stoked to see some actual moving footage of the film, as it’s likely to be a wild, fun, and kick ass ride that only Del Toro could deliver. 

PACIFIC RIM, starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Ron Perlman, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr., and Rinko Kikuchi starts calming the seas on July 12, 2013.
