Gunn’s Slither

A while back we told you about the James Gunn (DAWN OF THE DEAD) alien invasion movie SLITHER (read article here). Today Dread Central had a chance to talk to Gunn about his project, and this is what he had to say:

“What I’m really being influenced by here is a combination of ’80s horror movies because what happens is this alien disease takes forms and works its way into the populace whatever way it can,” explains Gunn. “Some of that change is zombification type stuff and a lot of it is mutation type stuff. It’s very Cronenberg-esque and it’s very influenced by the tone of Manga artist Junji Ito’s Uzamaki.”

“It’s very much an ensemble piece but structurally it’s quite different because we have different protagonists for different parts of the movie. The first protagonist actually ends up being the most infected and worst creature of all,” Gunn says with a chuckle. “The movie will change a lot. The thing is to try and take a high concept and bring a new element of this ridiculous f*cked up disease and give the audience something to freak out about and laugh at.”

Like I said before, count me in! I love the genre, I love the ’80s, and love movies that f*ck with your head and make you laugh! Although no one has been signed on yet, casting announcements are said to take place some time soon. Yippie!
