What, SHERLOCK HOLMES and EXCALIBUR aren’t big enough?
Only days after hearing that director Guy Ritchie has taken a fancy to remaking CANNONBALL RUN, it now seems Warner Bros. wants their man to pick up where Zack Snyder left 300…and direct the epic action spectacle XERXES!
Wait, what? Wasn’t Snyder supposed to helm XERXES himself? I had the same thoughts. But according to Vulture, the studio has offered the British director the gig. Of course, with SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 due this December and EXCALIBUR slated for 2012 (with Michael Fassbender)…how much time can Ritchie find to adequately undertake XERXES. Will he even be interested in the material?
Better yet, why the sudden departure for Snyder? Is it the SUPERMAN gig that’s calling his attention away, or something more troublesome? Could studio brass dislike what they’ve seen from SUCKER PUNCH, and the fact Snyder’s last two flicks have underperformed have anything to do with it? Very interesting…
From Frank Miller (SIN CITY, 300), XERXES rose to power in fifth-century-BC Persia and became known as ‘The King of Kings,’ eventually raising and leading a massive army intent on ruthlessly destroying the hated Greeks who killed his father. Xerxes seeks nothing less than to become a god himself — and achieves his wish!”
Point blank: if you had your druthers, who would you like to see XERXES directed by: Zack Snyder or Guy Ritchie?
