Guy Ritchie won’t be directing Lobo, producer Joel Silver says

Back in December, Guy Ritchie played coy about the possibility of directing LOBO, which he’d been attached to for months. It seems like it was the right move, because last night the news broke that Ritchie is currently committed to directing SHERLOCK HOLMES 2, so LOBO is off his plate, maybe forever. Joel Silver said so, so it must be true.

(No word on whether or not Ritchie is being forced to direct SHERLOCK HOLMES 2 by brutish lawyers.)

Silver: “The studio wants us and Guy to focus on making another ‘Sherlock Holmes.’ So I think we’re going to be doing that.”

As for the possibility of Ritchie directing LOBO after SHERLOCK 2, Silver guesses that another director will be brought on board. You can read a bit more from the legendary producer over at the LA Times.

For those of you who don’t know anything about the wacky character, here’s a small breakdown, courtesy of Wikipedia: An alien, Lobo works as an interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter. Although introduced as a hardened, rarely-used noir villain in the 1980s, he languished in limbo until his revival as an anti-hero biker in the early 1990s. The character enjoyed a short run as one of DC’s most popular characters throughout the 1990s.
