Last week I told you that the randy Dutchman known as Paul Verhoeven is getting back into the sleaze of things with THE SURROGATE, a movie about a couple desperate to have a child who find themselves in an unbearable position when they find out the surrogate they hired to carry their baby is insane. My kinda flick, and with the director of SHOWGIRLS and STARSHIP TROOPERS at the helm, let’s hope it turns out to be a crazy little guilty pleasure.
Verhoeven might have found his first actor, as The Hollywood Reporter reports that Halle Berry is circling the part of the mother who wants a baby so bad she’ll hire a psychopath to dump one out. (At least that’s my own thoughtful way of putting it.) Berry, who won an Oscar in 2002 for having sex with Billy Bob Thornton, has really been out of sight recently. Well, there was CATWOMAN, so I guess that was enough to hold us over for a few years. I’m just eager to see the glow from her luscious figure on the big screen again. (I mean, look at that picture above. LOOK AT IT! That’s perfection personified right there.)
The role is not hers officially, she’s simply interested in the part, so don’t go updating the IMDB just yet. At least it looks like THE SURROGATE is swiftly moving forward, bringing us that much closer to some much-needed Verhoeven insanity.
