By now you’ve heard the brilliant news that Rob Zombie has accepted Dimension’s check and is directing the sequel to HALLOWEEN in a move that can only be chuckled at – because once upon a time I seem to remember the auteur slamming remakes AND sequels. Soon enough he’ll have to backpeddle so furiously he’ll go through a f*cking wall. Add to that the reality that HALLOWEEN is an awful movie with no understanding of the Michael Myers mystique (or suspense or pacing for that matter) and you’ve got a movie I hope never actually gets made. (Also crapping on this project is the fact that INSIDE directors Julien Maury and Alexander Bustillo were originally attached to maybe add some, you know, style and atmosphere to the tale.)
Just for fun, here’s a quote Rob Zombie gave to AintItCoolNews in July of ’07: “I definitely would not do sequels, so no. Because much like I’d assume Carpenter, I wanted to make a movie with a beginning, a middle, and an end, so it’s a movie going experience. It’s not a franchise going experience, because I think that’s part of what ruins these movies too – everybody’s like “well what are you going to do for part 2?” I don’t give a shit about a part 2 or 3, 4, 5. I want to make one great movie and then whatever happens happens.”
Here’s a quote from Zombie’s Myspace page today: “It’s on motherfuckers! I know it’s been a rumor for awhile, but until it’s a real deal I don’t like to announce things.”
On said Myspace page, Zombie has put up some promo art for HALLOWEEN 2, which I guess we’ll be calling H2 from now on. Can’t wait ’til Zombie says “I love sequels, but I hate trilogies, and I am NOT doing part 3.”
HALLOWEEN 2 is slated to begin production in 4 months – certainly can’t hurt to rush this movie to meet an October release date…
