More importantly, though, it gives me a chance to make a point. They should put her in the next HALLOWEEN. I mean sure, she played the slut on DAWSON’S CREEK (er…that’s what my wife tells me), but she’s got an inherent sweetness that’s been missing all too often from slasher fare. I don’t mean that pseudo-virginal crap that Neve Campbell pulled in the SCREAM movies (though I’ll grant you she was good). I mean the old school Jamie Lee Curtis type of slasher chick that has sweetness inherent in her being.
There’s a lot of ink and chatter dealing with genre work these days, which is great. Let’s use that as a chance to not exactly raise the bar, but to solidify what is great in horror. Sure we always talk about gore and T & A. But at the heart of every great fright flick are characters that we care about. Characters that make us tense and worried because we don’t want them to get hurt. Nothing like a sweet young innocent to drive that feel home.
So in the macro, as a plea/tip to the genre menches out there, look seriously at your casting when you’ve got a so-called standard horror project, and get yourself a believable belle to carry the day.
In the micro, to the producers of the next HALLOWEEN movie, Michelle would be a great choice to bring back to the series. And if you can find a way to get her naked, that’d be cool too.
