Hammer Films’ The Woman in Black adds 2 actors and subtracts some 3D!

First, let’s get the great news out of the way: Hammer Films’ update of THE WOMAN IN BLACK, starring Daniel Radcliffe, has nixed its plan to shoot in 3D! It’s decided to go with good old fashioned 2D to tell its spooky story, which brings a great sigh of relief to this 3D-hater…

On to the other news; the flick has added two more castmembers: Ciaran Hinds (pictured, right) and Janet McTeer. The former has been in tons of great flicks, like MUNICH, THERE WILL BE BLOOD and IN BRUGES, while the latter received a Best Actress nomination for her 1999 performance in the drama TUMBLEWEEDS.

The Woman in Black follows a young lawyer, Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), who is ordered to travel to a remote corner of the UK and sort out a recently deceased client’s papers. As he works alone in an old and isolated house, Kipps begins to uncover its tragic secrets, and his unease grows when he discovers that the local village is held hostage by the ghost of a scorned woman set on vengeance.

According to Deadline.com, Hinds will play the local landowner who counsels Daniel Radcliffe as he investigates this Victorian mystery, while McTeer will play Hinds’ on-screen wife, Mrs Daily.

The screenplay was written by Jane Goldman (KICK-ASS) and the film is being directed by James Watkins (EDEN LAKE). Shooting begins on September 23rd… in glorious 2D!
