Ever wonder how and why Dr. Hannibal Lector became the blood-hungry sicko we all know and love? Variety reported today that author Thomas Harris’ prequel to the Hannibal Lector trilogy, BEHIND THE MASK, is slated for publication this February, with Dino De Laurentiis already on board to bring it to the silver screen. Being a big fan of the books, I’m excited to see how far Harris takes us into the mind of one of the greatest fictional madmen of all time.
As for the movies… SILENCE was a masterpiece, and MANHUNTER did the book very good justice, but HANNIBAL and RED DRAGON were steaming piles of donkey shite, so let’s hope this time they pick a director with some background in horror- we can only imagine what dark and demented things happened to Dr. Lector in his early years for him to turn out the way he did. Anthony Hopkins may appear in a cameo for this one, but no news yet on exactly who will play the young doctor…
