Hardwicke is currently in talks to direct MAXIMUM RIDE, based on the 5-part series of novels by James Patterson. I’ve seen the covers to these books in the store (cause I keep thinking it says MAXIMUM RISK–like the J.C.V.D. movie), but haven’t given them another thought. Until now.
Why? Here’s a brief synopsis as to what the series is about: [MAXIMUM RIDE] chronicles six teens, known as the Flock, who are genetically altered so that they are part human and part bird. Learning to fly, they escape the laboratory where they have been housed and are pursued by a pack of creatures called the Erasers that are part human and part wolf.
So basically, it’s bird-men vs werewolves. Hardwicke loves her some werewolves! I can dig it, yo… but will it be cool? Will it be dark and freaky, or will it be TWILIGHT-style weaksauce? I’m sure there will be some romance along the way, but it doesn’t appear as though the romance is at the heart of the story. Which is a good thing.
The dude who wrote RISE OF THE SILVER SURFER is currently adapting the novels, so there’s that going against this thing as well. But who knows, maybe MAXIMUM RIDE will prevail and kick all sorts of ass. Stick around as we find out.
