Hardy/Lee back for Christ

Here’s some pretty cool news for all you fans of ‘old school’ horror, as it looks like the team that brought us the original THE WICKER MAN (and pissed all over the comedic remake) is coming back with a follow up to the original! That’s right, director Robin Hardy and Christopher Lee are back, and this time they’re on board with COWBOYS FOR CHRIST!

I wouldn’t go so far as call it a sequel, but a companion piece to WICKER would be more like it- as it deals with some of the same themes, and of course, has a lot of the same folks returning to collaborate again. Based on Hardy’s book, COWBOYS goes a little something like this:

Young Beth and Steve, a gospel singer and her cowboy boyfriend, both Christian members of a no-sex-before-marriage pact they call ‘the silver ring thing’, leave Texas to preach door-to-door in Scotland. Scotland and all Europe are as foreign to them as if they were in Papua New Guinea. When, after initial abuse, they are welcomed with joy and elation to Tressock, the border fiefdom of the sinister Lachlan Morrison, they assume their hosts want to simply hear more about Jesus.

How innocent and wrong they are.

Nice! STYD got word that filming is set to begin next month for the new film, with roles set aside for Faye Dunaway and Susie Amy (though they have yet to be confirmed as returning). This is pretty exciting news, and I’m surprised it’s just hitting the net now with production so close, but there you go.

If you hit up the book’s OFFICIAL SITE, you can see an interview of Hardy and Lee discussing the themes that they’ll explore in the new movie, as well as get a chance to buy you’re very own copy of the book itself. Let’s hope for even more nudity this time around!
