The return to Hogwarts is getting closer. HBO has released a second teaser trailer for its upcoming Harry Potter TV series, giving fans another look at the highly anticipated adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved books. The new series will premiere on Christmas Day, December 25, 2026, with the first season titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. You can watch the new teaser above.
The series is being produced by HBO, with Francesca Gardiner serving as showrunner. Mark Mylod is executive producing and directing multiple episodes. The series is intended to offer a more expansive adaptation of Rowling’s books than the original film series, with one season planned for each of the seven novels.
HBO is clearly confident in its new Harry Potter series. The network has already renewed the show for a second season, despite Season 1 not premiering until December. Season 2 is expected to adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, the second book in Rowling’s series, with production scheduled to begin this fall.
The Season 2 renewal also comes with a major creative change. Jon Brown, who worked as a writer on the first season, has been promoted to co-showrunner alongside Francesca Gardiner. Gardiner previously explained that bringing Brown aboard would help maintain momentum as the show’s overlapping production schedules continue.
Newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout lead the series as Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.
The adult cast includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Warwick Davis as Filius Flitwick.
The cast also includes Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge.
The first season of HBO’s Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, premieres December 25, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max where available. The first season will consist of eight episodes and will begin the planned seven-season adaptation of Rowling’s novels.
