If you hear moaning on the set of HBO’s Harry Potter series, don’t worry, it’s just Moaning Myrtle waiting for her time to shine. This morning, the network added three new cast members to Season 2 of its ambitious television reboot, with filming currently underway at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the UK.
Apparating into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter are Rafe Spall as Arthur Weasley, Molly Hewitt-Richards as Moaning Myrtle, and Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey.
Spall, known for his standout roles in Under Salt Marsh, The Ritual, and Trying, steps into the shoes previously filled by Mark Williams in the original film franchise. Arthur Weasley is a wonderfully eccentric pure-blood wizard who works in the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts Office at the Ministry of Magic. He’s the head of the sprawling Weasley clan and father to seven children, including Ron, his younger sister Ginny, and those legendary trickster twins, Fred and George.
Hewitt-Richards, who has recently built up her resume in the BritBox crime series Code of Silence and the long-running BBC medical drama Casualty, takes on the role of Moaning Myrtle. The notoriously sensitive ghost haunts the second-floor girls’ bathroom at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. While Potterheads know she met her tragic end after catching the gaze of the Basilisk, fans continue to speculate about whether she was intentionally targeted or if her fateful encounter with the ancient beast was merely an accident.
Lastly, young actor Ambrose (The Sheep Detectives) will play Colin Creevey, a wide-eyed Muggle-born wizard and self-appointed superfan of Harry Potter. He’s rarely seen without his trusty Argus C3 Matchmatic 35mm rangefinder camera, eagerly snapping candid photos around the castle grounds. His story ultimately takes a tragic turn, though not until several heavy chapters deeper into the epic saga.
This wave of casting follows other major additions to the Season 2 ensemble, which include Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart, Bonnie Hill as Ginny Weasley, Lenny Rush as Dobby, and Billy Barratt as the young Tom Riddle.
They join the core recurring cast led by Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. The adult wizarding world is equally stacked with heavy hitters, featuring John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
While camera crews are already hard at work on the second installment, fans won’t have to wait quite that long to return to the halls of Hogwarts. The long-awaited first season of the series is set to officially debut on Christmas Day, December 25, 2026, offering a holiday premiere for the next generation of witches and wizards.
